Democrats Make A BIG Mistake—Now They Face Arrest

Federal officials are signaling they’ve had enough of Democrat theatrics after a shocking Friday incident at the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility in Newark, New Jersey. Several Democrat lawmakers and a progressive mayor may soon find out what the rule of law really looks like — because, according to DHS, arrests are “very much on the table.”

The lawmakers — Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rep. Rob Menendez, and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka — stormed the ICE facility with others, demanding entry and creating a chaotic scene captured on camera. Mayor Baraka was arrested on-site and charged with trespassing. But the situation may escalate further: a federal ICE agent was reportedly assaulted during the confrontation.

Now the Department of Homeland Security is weighing arrests and more charges.

“If it was a typical U.S. citizen… they would be arrested,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin on Fox News. “Just because you are a member of Congress… does not mean you are above the law.”

She added, “If you assault a law enforcement officer, we will make sure you answer to justice… arrests are still on the table.”

Caught on video

RedState’s Bonchie reported that Rep. LaMonica McIver appears to be the most aggressive of the group, allegedly seen on video physically shoving federal officers aside to enter the restricted area.

“If you or I did that,” one commentator noted, “we’d be in a cell already.”

It’s hard to imagine a clearer case of performative politics — lawmakers forcing a confrontation for the cameras, under the pretense of “advocating” for illegal immigrants being held by ICE. But their actions may have crossed the line from protest to federal crimes, including trespassing and assault on federal officers.

Double standard no more?

Assistant Secretary McLaughlin’s response marks a turning point. For years, Democrats in office have been allowed to blur the line between activism and enforcement — from sanctuary city policies to staged protests.

But this time, federal officials aren’t looking the other way.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” McLaughlin said bluntly. “Justice applies to all.”

The DHS statement comes after years of escalating Democrat rhetoric against ICE and law enforcement. In some cities, radicals have called to abolish ICE entirely. But Friday’s stunt wasn’t just rhetoric — it was action, and possibly criminal.

Progressive stunts meet reality

As the Biden-era immigration chaos continues to unravel, Democrats are desperate to deflect attention. Instead of fixing policy, they’re staging political theater — and putting federal officers at risk in the process.

But now that the Trump administration has reinstated law-and-order leadership across DHS, DOJ, and ICE, the days of special treatment may be over.

A few years ago, this kind of breach by elected officials might have been swept under the rug. Not anymore.

If charges are filed — and DHS says they may be — it would mark a dramatic shift. No more two-tiered justice system. No more hall passes for lawmakers.

What’s next?

DHS investigators are reviewing all available footage and reports from the incident. If charges are pursued, these lawmakers could face serious consequences — including jail time.

And it wouldn’t just be a legal milestone. It would be a political message to every activist-lawmaker who thinks the badge and the Constitution don’t apply to them.

The rule of law is back — and nobody is above it.
