The US Senate will spend the last week of the year before their Christmas vacation herding the must-pass National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) through the approval process. The House passed the gargantuan $895.2 billion bill last week. This is despite the fact that the Pentagon has now failed to account for all its money in the past seven years of financial audits. Some of the compromises that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) included to gain the support of Democrats are raising eyebrows.
The bill appropriates about $850 billion for Department of Defense “programs.” The Department of Energy, which handles our nuclear power plants, gets another $33 billion. About $15 billion is set aside for discretionary spending. The bill only provides the Pentagon and DOD with $512 million (that’s “million” with an “m”) for “defense-related activities.”
When the Trump administration was in office, Congress passed a bill that required the Department of Defense to conduct a financial audit every year. Trump signed the bill into law in 2018. For the past seven years, the Department of Defense has never passed a single audit. They can’t account for hundreds of billions of dollars that have gone missing.
As a reward for such an amazing level of fraud and incompetence, the House voted to give the DOD a $71 billion pay increase for next year. This gives them even more money to lose!
Since Congress only allocated $512 million (that’s “million” with an “m”) for defense-related activities next year, we think that is grounds for the American people to ask a very simple question: Where the hell is all that money going?
Well, thanks to Speaker Johnson, some of the money is going to pay for sex changes for DOD employees and members of the military. Democrats pitched a fit because the bill didn’t include money to pay for barbaric sex change surgeries for the children of DOD employees and servicemembers. As a compromise, Mike Johnson agreed to pay for sex change surgeries for adults in the DOD and the military.
Could someone please pin Mike Johnson down and figure out what his actual opinion is on sex change surgeries? The Speaker made headlines earlier this month for refusing to allow a biological man to poop in the stall next to Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC). The mainstream media had to run for their fainting couches when Johnson said that a biological man cannot become a woman through surgery or any other means.
But now he’s appropriating taxpayer money to pay for sex change surgeries at the Pentagon and in the Marine Corps. Where exactly does Mike Johnson stand on the nonexistent “science” behind sex change surgeries?
The supposedly “pro-life” Mike Johnson also allowed a provision to pay for abortion vacations for female servicemembers. It’s illegal to try to use taxpayer money to kill a baby, so to offset those costs, Johnson allowed a provision for female servicemembers to take a few days off—with paid travel expenses included—to kill their babies. Six of one, half a dozen of the others.
It’s not as if anyone is going to count the money at the Pentagon, right? You say “defense,” Mike Johnson says, “sex change surgeries and abortion vacations.”
Johnson also failed to eliminate DEI training from Department of Defense schools. Wasn’t that like a central campaign promise of someone who ran for president once, who Mike Johnson supposedly supported? If someone complains that our defense spending is now close to a trillion dollars a year, you now know how to put that person in their place. Let them know that it’s very expensive to maintain vital national security provisions like sex change surgeries and abortion vacations.
The NDAA passed the House by a vote of 281-140.
