The Democrats’ plan to permanently shift America’s voting landscape through mass immigration is collapsing—because legal immigrants are rejecting it.
A new CNN analysis reveals a 40-point swing among legal immigrant voters—away from Democrats and toward Republicans, especially President Donald Trump. This reversal is sending shockwaves through the left, which spent years banking on immigrant loyalty to their party.
In 2020, Democrats held a commanding 32-point lead among legal immigrant voters. Now, according to CNN’s Harry Enten, Republicans lead that group by 8 points. “More so than any group that I can find, the group of voters who became more hawkish on immigration were, in fact, immigrants themselves,” Enten said.
The numbers tell the story. In 2016, Trump won 36% of legal immigrant voters. By 2024, that number had jumped to 47%. And the momentum is still building.
Why the shift? Because legal immigrants—those who played by the rules—have watched Joe Biden and his allies flood the country with millions of illegal migrants. Since taking office, Biden’s border czar Alejandro Mayorkas has allowed nearly 10 million illegals into the U.S. via the southern border, while adding another three million through legal channels and millions more in temporary work visas.
Biden’s mass migration policy was never about compassion. It was about consolidating political power and keeping wages low for working Americans. Business elites got cheap labor, and progressives hoped to permanently tip the electorate. Legal immigrants are the first to feel the betrayal.
These families fought to come to America legally. Now they’re forced to compete with a surge of illegal labor that undercuts their wages, strains public services, and floods their neighborhoods with lawlessness. What the Democrats sold as “diversity” has become a civic and economic disaster.
Enten noted that legal immigrants used to feel sympathy for illegal migrants. But after living through the consequences of Biden’s border chaos, they’ve become “increasingly distant” from the illegal population and more favorable toward Trump’s approach to immigration.
The backlash is growing because the damage is real. While Biden’s deputies made life easier for corporations and chaos activists, American communities were hit with rising crime, shrinking wages, and overwhelmed infrastructure.
Unions that once protected blue-collar workers have been hijacked by progressive leaders pushing for more migration. Instead of defending American jobs, they now serve as political arms for the left’s open-borders agenda.
Meanwhile, countries across Latin America and Asia are being drained of their working class, as the U.S. imports cheap labor, leaving behind broken economies abroad and broken systems at home.
But under President Trump, that tide is turning.
Since returning to office, Trump has begun restoring border security, halting illegal entry, and putting American workers first. His immigration reforms are already lifting wages and bringing order back to the system.
And Americans—native-born and immigrant alike—are taking notice.
A recent poll found that 59% support Trump’s crackdown on the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles, where mobs waving foreign flags demanded open borders. Only 39% opposed the action.
The verdict is clear: legal immigrants don’t want lawless streets or rigged labor markets. They want safety, fairness, and the rule of law. That’s what President Trump is delivering—and why even longtime Democrat voters are moving in his direction.
The left tried to use immigration to secure power. Instead, they’ve handed Trump a new coalition. And this time, it’s built to last.
